A finance expert has charged youths in Nigeria to cultivate their individual unique brand and stop blaming government on failure to develop themselves.
The Chief Executive Officer/Managing Director, Unity Bank Plc, Oluwatomi Sowefun gave the charge while delivering a lecture titled; Unleashing Youth Potential: Pathway To Nigeria’s Future at the 11th Convocation of the Redeemer University, Ede, Osun State on Wednesday.
While delivery her lecture, Sowefun said that there was surge in turnout of graduates and employable individuals but the trend has not been commensurate with the availability of jobs or opportunities.
The youths, according to her, constitute 70 percent of Nigeria’s population and government at all level should develop avenue to engage more of them in matters of national interest and importance and allow them to share their perspective to ensure that ideas and initiatives were not wasted.
Sowefun advised the graduates of the university to discover, unleash their potential and uniqueness in order to be someone that should be looked upon.
She said, “The challenges with the Nigerian youth are multifarious in nature. As a consequence of the rapidly increasing population, there is a constant surge in the turnout of graduates and employable individuals year by year. This trend has not been commensurate with the availability of jobs or opportunities, and this has given birth to frustrated, under engaged youths who are constrained and limited in avenues to channel their energy positively.
“Bloom where you are planted. The grass is not necessarily greener on the other side of the fence. Do not be deceived, life outside the confines of the school environment is tough and sometimes harsh. You cannot unleash your potential without discovering your purpose or reason for existence.
“Cultivate your personal and unique brand. Your personal brand speaks to your uniqueness as an individual”.
