THE festival of Osun-Osgobo, which takes place every year in Osogbo, Nigeria. The believers of the water godess celebrates her in the month of August. The festival renews the contract between humans and the divine: Osun offers grace to the community; in return, it vows to honor her Sacred Grove.
This festival, according to expert believe to be the only surviving cultural festival that is still celebrating as it is.
The Osun-Osogbo Grove is among the last of the sacred forests which usually adjoined the edges of most Yoruba cities before extensive urbanization. In recognition of its global significance and its cultural value, the Sacred Grove was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005.
