On Monday, Lagos State Government released a restriction order on Motorcycles and Tricycles popularly known as ‘Okada’ and ‘Keke’.

Former lawmaker, Senator Ben Murray-Bruce commended the state governor on the order saying he is one amongst many who thinks futuristically and not backwards.

Bruce said, “I understand that Governor @jidesanwoolu is concluding plans to replace the existing bus transport system in Lagos state with electric buses. If true, the governor must be commended, and I call on him to forthwith, set a date to ban combustion engine vehicles in the state.

“I commend Governor @jidesanwoolu for being one amongst many who thinks futuristically and not backwards.”

However, some Nigerians in a Twitter comment lashed the state government on its action, lamented that the new order will increase the unemployment rate in the country.

A twitter user, said, “If they keep taking the source of living from people crime rate would increase drastically u want to ban keke and bike what other option are you giving to this people to use and feed themselves and their family ?? I think it is wrong and it shouldn’t happen”.

Another commenter, Nwokwa Nnamdi, @Igbo_Speaker twitted, “You can’t ban Okaka and keke at the same time . Which road did they provide to ease the Lagosians pains on traffic?

Adeniyi Oludare, @oludare_adeniyi lamented, “The idea stinks if viable means of livelihood isn’t provided for these guys. Unemployment is rife and the few who appear to have mastered their destiny, you plan to deprive them?”
