Sokoto State Govt Orders Prosecution Of Lockdown Violators

The Sokoto State Government has directed the state police command to ensure the prosecution of eight passengers who defied the government closure of all international border and inter-state boundaries to curtail the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

Governor Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State told the Commissioner of Police, Sani Kaoje, to work with the Commissioner of Justice in executing the prosecution.

Tambuwal had apprehended a bus conveying the passengers out of the state and handed over the travellers to the police for prosecution.

The Governor who accosted the vehicle on the road on his way back from the Tureta Local Government bordering Zamfara State.

The Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Sani Ka’oje, said “All the passengers are being interrogated to know their culpability. They will be charged to court as directed by the Governor.”

In a related development, another 18 passengers were paraded for allegedly violating the government sit-at-home directive.

Some of the culprits claimed ignorance of the stay-at-home directive and closure of boundaries.
