UNIQUE Success Academy, a leading educational institution in Osogbo, the Osun State capital on Saturday presented professionals and students alike with award of excellence.
The event, which was held at the Academy’s dome, located around capital area of the metropolis was organized to celebrate individuals who have distinguished themselves in different strata of human endeavours.
Speaking at the event, the Director of studies for the Academy, Mr. Bunyamin Zakkariyah said formal education should not be seen as a factor militating against creativity.
He explained that formal education should be an instrument of critical thinking and innovation that drive the zeal of becoming employer rather than waiting endlessly for white collar job.
Bunyamin wondered why the level of unemployment continued to swell when Nigeria has torrents of human capital coupled with enormous natural resources.
The educationist disclosed that part of the vision of the Academy was to have a vocational training centre, where students are trained in the acquisition of life support skills in major areas of human development like engineering, small scale manufacturing of spare parts and certification in technology as approved by the National Board of Technical Education (NBTE) .
He however pleaded with the Federal government to facilitate the establishment of branches of international examination bodies like GRE, SAT, TOEFL, IELTS in Osun to make accessibility easier for prospective students.
Speaking earlier, the deputy bursar of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Elder E.A Idowu emphasised the need for every nation to prioritize education, saying any nation without qualitative education policy is doomed.
Idowu said Nigéria would remain underdeveloped and continue experiencing braindrain, until the policy makers do the needful by looking beyond the mineral resources and redirect policy statement on education to boost the economy .
He said : “Our country is immensely blessed and I see no reason why we should be underdeveloped.
“Education remains the only potential to liberate any nation is education, hence, the need for every government to invest in it.
Urging the student to shun drug abuse, cultism, and all forms of social vices, Idowu maintained that abuse of drugs leads students nowhere, saying “you can only reach the pinnacle of your career if you’re not swayed by the youthful exuberance”.
